Our Mission, Philosophy & Method

Sunny Dogs is proud to serve the people of the Grand Strand/ Coastal Carolina region.  We are active in our community as we work with area humane societies, student groups, and local businesses; and we are a proud member of BNI (Business Networking International).  We are grateful for our neighbors and friends, and have been voted the Myrtle Beach Herald's Reader's Choice for Dog Trainer in 2015 & 2017, the Carolina Forest Chronicle's Reader's Choice for Dog Trainer in 2017, and the SC Woman Magazine's Best Dog Trainer in 2017.

Our Mission is to convey the importance of a proper dog-to-owner relationship and successfully build this relationship through effective communication, positive interaction and consistency.  Our ultimate goal is to help dog owners enjoy that special relationship with their canine best friend and, conversely, prevent dog owners from feeling the need to abandon or surrender their dog due to their perceived inability to properly train their dog or fix behavioral problems.

Please!  Before you decide to abandon or surrender your beloved puppy or adult dog, contact us for help!

Most pet owners strive for the ideal relationship with their dog, but it isn’t always as easy as it looks.  Consider why you have a dog in your family:

  • Unconditional love
  • Constant and loyal companionship
  • Coming home to someone who’s always happy to see you
  • You, your family, and your home are secure and protected
  • His fun and playful demeanor always bring a smile to your face
Do these qualities typify your relationship with your dog? Do you wish they did?  One or all of these could be challenging and elusive if your dog stresses you out. Understanding why he does what he does, and then teaching him to do what you’d like him to do, can strengthen your bond with your canine family member and help you achieve what you wanted in the first place – a well behaved, enjoyable, protective, and fun four-legged best friend.

Our Philosophy is that all dogs are trainable with the proper reinforcement.  The key is to reinforce their need to respond to you rather than their natural instinct.  You can shape your dog's world while maintaining the essence of your dog's personality and characteristics, and it feels great when you accomplish this!

Our Method is to convey the importance of a proper dog-to-owner relationship and successfully build this relationship through effective communication, positive interaction and consistency. We acknowledge that success is as much about teaching you as it is about teaching your dog. We show you how to teach your dog basic obedience cues using luring techniques and progressive practice. We practice safe training methods and use of a valued reward system. Dogs of any age can benefit from this type of training.
