1st Annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day Held in Myrtle Beach

Overcast skies and cooler temps made for a pleasant morning at the event.

Myrtle Beach hosted its first-ever "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" on Sat., Sept. 17, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Forestbrook Baptist Church, 2051 Forestbrook Road.

September is the AKC's "Responsible Dog Ownership Month", nationally promoting the importance for the dog-loving public to be responsible owners.  This event was free to the area public and leashed dogs, and included activities and demonstrations for the entertainment and education of guests.  A Dog Food Drive and monetary donations benefited the Horry County Animal Care Center.

Co-hosted by Coastal Canine Dog Sports, LLC and Sunny Dogs Training Company, activities at this event included appearances by Horry County Police dogs and mobility service dogs; demonstrations of fun dog sports, a Canine Good Citizen(TM) evaluation and dog safety lessons; a "Meet the Breeds" parade; and a Kids Coloring Contest. Guests visited booths to learn about grooming, training, doggie daycare & boarding, and animal rescue.

Sponsors of the event included Critter Magazine, Custom Canine Mobile Grooming, and K9 Cabana
